After conversion of Server 2012 system_thread_exception_not_handled winhv.sys

Hello All,

After converting a Server 2012 machine (which is running Hyper-V) and starting in VMware vSphere 5.5 I get a BSOD and system_thread_exception_not_handled winhv.sys

I know that I might need to disable Hyper-V, anything else it could be?

Good afternoon, I have been trying to convert 2 servers for about a week now. They are running Redhat 5.5. I have been running into all sort of issues. In the beginning the servers would not query and i got passed that but now i have been stuck with this message since yesterday. I have looked at the Forums and I still have not moved anywhere. All I am trying to do is convert 2 old servers to my new esxi server.  Please help!! The converter gets to about 3 percent and then Fails.

I will attach my log if that will help.

The virtual disk is invalid or needs to be repaired AND vmware-vdiskmanager does NOT fix the problem

I'm running vmware-vdiskmanager -R against a VMDK file that produces "the virtual disk is invalid or needs to be repaired" errors in VCenter Converter.  vmware-vdiskmanager does NOT report anything; it just silently returns to the command prompt after a second or two and does not fix the problem.

vdisk-vdiskmanager -e reports: Disk chain is consistent.

Now what?  What to do when vmware-vdiskmanager -R does not fix the problem?

Ports to be opened for P2V

Hi folks,

Have a question on ports required to P2V a server to vCenter server cluster (not directly to ESXi host) with the standalone converter tool installed directly on the source.

Do I need to open the firewall ports from source to vCenter cluster IP or to the individual vCenter servers and to all ESXi hosts in the HA cluster as well ?

Source machine with Standalone Converter Installed ==>> Destination vCenter Server Cluster

from Source machine TCP 443 undirectional to vCenter cluster IP for vCenter communications.....and to individual vCenter servers in the vcenter cluster and all ESXi hosts??

from source machine TCP 902 unidirectional to vCenter server cluster IP for cloning process.....and to individual vCenter servers in the vcenter cluster and all ESXi hosts??

Thank you for your help in advance!!!

Trying to P2V a server and having some quite major issues, I've attached the log file.

So far I've tried different versions of converter, tried a direct link between Physical box and host for conversion using a crossover, P2V individual drives, the best I have had so far is it seemed to complete but this was making the destination one RAID set on RAID 5 its really quite strange.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before and can help narrow it down.

Hello all,

I am usind vmWare vCenter Converter Standalone 5.0 to run a P2V on a server that is running Windows 2003.  I have ran two different P2V's this 2003 server with success over the past three week.  I am tryng to run another P2V on this server now.  On the deploying of the agent I receive the following error "Unable to complete vCenter Converter install.  Error code 1,603".

Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

Why would this error start now after running successfully, everything I was reading was saying to check port settings, none o those have changed.

Thanks for your help..

inaccessible_boot_device after p2v Windows 2000 Pro SP4 to Workstation 6.5

$

I am using the latest VMware Converter Standalone 4.0.1 to p2v a physical

Windows 2000 Professional SP4 PC. The PC is a standard Pentium with IDE

disk from circa 2001. The disk is 20GB partitioned logically into C:

and D. It converts with no errors (I did both disks into one VMDK).

When I power on the VM in VMware Workstation 6.5 (or Vmware Player

2.5) it gets to the Win 2000 boot graphic then I get a BSOD with the

classic 0x7B Stop error: inaccessible_boot_device.

Is there anything I can do to get the vm to boot? I am lost for ideas, normally p2v of a basic IDE pc works flawlessly.

The source PC does not have a NIC, so I installed Converter onto the PC and selected "Local machine" for the source option. I used an external USB as the destination, which worked fine.

I can mount the resultant VMDK with the  vmware-mount tool with no issues. It just won't boot!

P2V Linux secured with privatekey and passphrase

Hello,

I am attempting to P2V a Linux server using the VMWare Standalore Converter v6.

The Linux server is a DMZ server secured with PrivateKey and passphrase. The SSH is listening on port 33001 instead of 22.

Few things to mention about the environment is that,

  • the physical linux server is in DMZ subnet 172.16.0.x. with port 33001 opened to it for ssh.
  • Converter is ran from a Windows server in a 10.1.106.x subnet using privatekey and passphrase.
  • vCenter is on 10.1.109.x subnet.
  • VM is being created on the 10.1.105.x subnet

When I stat the P2V, it proceeds with the initial VM creation in VMWare and loads the temp OS. The job fails at 3% with the below error in the log file:

It seems to me that after the helperVM OS is loaded it is trying to access the source server and fails as the HelperVM doesn't have the private key or passphrase.

I did come across linux p2v conversion with wmware converter 6.1.1 where the user disabled the private key and switched to user name and password authentication. However, I wanted to know if its possible to P2V with PrivateKey and passphrase.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Converter version: 6.2.0 build-7348398

OS: Windows 10 Pro, 64Bit, Fall Creators Update, December patch installed

Tried to convert the powered machine into a vm. I used as destination system my Unix based NAS mapped to Windows. The converter wasn't able to lock the destination and started to loop.

I cancelled the process in order to use a USB drive as destination.

When I restarted the converter, I got the the error message "Permission to perform this operation was denied." both using the "Next>" button as well as pressing "View source datails..." on the Source System step of the wizard.

I rebooted the system, I uninstalled and reinstalled the converter - nothing changed. I assume the converter didn't remove a lock entry.

I'm frustrated, each support would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Any idea how I can resolve this issue and get the agent running? Or at least a hint for further investigation?

Thanks!

"ERROR: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible" - Win8 64bit P2V with VMware Converter 5.5.0

Hello everyone,

I am trying to hot-P2V a Win8 64bit OS which came pre-installed on my new notebook (it's an OEM license so I don't have the OS installation discs and thus cannot create a VM from scratch).

Unfortunately, like many people before me, I experienced this error while reconfiguring the newly-created virtual hard disk.

I read that the cause of this problem is an inaccurate BCD configuration: VMware KB: P2V conversion using VMware Converter fails with the error: Unable to find the system volume, reconfigura…

This post states that I'm supposed to import the virtual machine to vCenter Server and repair the VM's BCD from there.

Unfortunately I do not own this software and tried to import the VM in VMware Converter and run "Configure Machine" to fix the BCD data but no, I get the same error.

I should also mention that I did NOT install VMware Tools on this VM.

I spent some time reading articles about what BCD actually is and I more or less understood WHAT to do but still need a hand on HOW to do it.

Comparing my BCD with my Control Panel --> Disk Management it looks like the partitions are laid out correctly:

the first is a Win rec. partition (400Mb), then you have the boot partition (260Mb) and then the OS partition (drive C:).

The Z: volume is merely a data partition where I put music and movies and was not included in the VM.

Finally, the D: volume is a Hewlett Packard rec. partition. - this was not included in the VM either.

The BCD says the {bootmgr} is '\Device\HarddiskVolume2', so it seems to mirror the Disk Management structure.

But I'm no expert at all so here I am, asking for help.

I am attaching VMware Converter's logs and screenshots of my Win8 BCD and Disk Management.

Apart from solving my issue I'm especially interested in understanding WHY this problem occurs so I can learn and be better prepared for the next time.

Thanks a lot for your help,

Regards.

Stef

Conversion starts, then fails at 3% with network unreachable error.

As the subject notes, I'm trying to test out converting some physical systems to VMWare using Converter 5.5 Standalone. Running it on a Windows 7 system, and I'm attempting to convert a Linux system that's running CentOS6. The wizard goes through smooth, and the source information is pulls down all looks correct. The conversion starts, connects to the helper, and starts formatting the destination. Then, at 3%, the conversion fails with this error:

FAILED: A general system error occurred: connect (`192.168.8.232'): Network is unreachable connect (`192.168.8.232'): Network is unreachable connect (`192.168.8.232'):

Network is unreachable Network error. Host 192.168.8.232 key can't be retrieved. (return code 2)

192.168.8.232 in this case is the source system. It's up and running just fine, and I maintain a SSH connection the entire time, but for some reason this error keeps coming up and I'm not sure why.

The conversion prompts for the key initially when the process starts, so I'm not sure if the "key can't be retrieved" error is as result of the "network unrechable" error, or if the key error comes first before the network error. Either way, network connectivity is fine, and I'm stumped as to why it keeps failing at this point. Any thoughts?

Hello,

Could someone tell me how to solve this error?

Now I'm trying to convert a remote Windows XP to a virtual machine on ESXi.

The source system  type is Powerd-on machine (remote) and its operating system is Windows XP. The destination host system is  ESXi 5.5, and the target virtual machine version is 10.

When I start to my conversion, the error "fault.ManagedDiskOpenFault.summary" occur.

I can find message below, in gui.log.
