i am in the midst of p-v and have some issue obtaining hw info. I belive its realted to converter version.
I am looking for version 5.1 everywhere and unable to get one.
If anyone have converter standalone 5.1 version , Kindly share. (maybe dropbox?)

I am a new to VMware and am trying to create a virtual image of an old Ubuntu 7.10 laptop using VMware converter standalone 4.0.1 for the purpose of occasionally running the image in VMware player.
I click "convert machine" tooltip, select source as "powered on machine" and have gone through all the steps to enable ssh, edit sudoers, and sudo VMware config on my machine and that gets me through the first step of the wizard. Note that the "this local machine" radio button is grayed and I need to enter the local ip address of my laptop.
What I'm stuck on is the second step, "Specify Destination". This topic is discussed in an earlier thread, but I don't understand the answer. VMware converter asks me for the VMware Infrastructure server details, but the Server drop down list box is empty with no choices. I don't see why I need a server since I just want to generate a single file, but the software doesn't allow me to leave this blank. I tried running the stand along converter on a windows machine on the same network (pointing to the linux laptop to convert) and I get the same behavior with this drop box being empty.
Do I need to also download VMware ESXi or Server to generate a virtual image of my laptop using VMware converter standalone? I read the documentation for those products briefly and they seem to be unrelated to the simple task that I'm trying to do which is to hot-clone a linux laptop. If I get one of these other programs, do they then need to run on another machine on the local network? I tried installing the VMware server on another computer on my local network, but it told me I had to first uninstall the player, so I didn't go any further.
Maybe this is related to something else then - like having to enable the standalone converter server in linux? - (the about box says the standalone converter is both a client and a server)

Well i'm converting a 2012 server on to esxi, but as i start the conversion i get the error from the Topic. My pc is on win10. agent is well installed on the server, i've did other servers in the past.
What's missing ?
PS: maby there is some magic out there to find that vstor2 driver to !

this error occurs when I try to p2v a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.2 (Tikanga) with converter standalone 4, in the first step (specify source), so I can't execute the p2v process.
I think this version of OS is not supported by converter 4, but I need to p2v this server anyway,
so any kind of help will be much appreciated.

I was used VMware Converter Standalone 6.0 to converter server 2003 on Hyper-V to host ESX of vCenter.
Hyper-V have IP : 10.132.2.200
vCenter have IP: 10.132.2.177
Host ESXi have IP : 10.132.2.192
We haven't policy firewall for 3 IP this. All ports are open in Firewall.
But, when I convertering 1% that have error with status : FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'The operation experienced a network error'
So, Can you help me fix case this ?

I'm trying to run a live P2V using vmware converter standalone 6.0.0 running on the actually physical machine to be converted and after selecting the ESXi 5.5 destination I get "The destination does not support EFI firmware". The physical machine is running Windows 2008 R2 standard x64 and is a System x3550 M2. Ive searched the internet but cant seem to find anyone with the same issue.
Does anyone know if there is a workaround for this issue?

I am trying to convert RHEL, but once I deploy in VMWare, the guest VM will ask for converter login. It says root and password, but once I enter it fails. Has anyone faced the same issues. Any suggestions.

Hey Guys new to the forum.
I recently tried to P2V a windows 2000 sp4 box and got the stop error. I found this - http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1000719.
I did what the article said on the physical box and proceeded to P2V
again. It completes the process fine. When i go to start the VM i still
get the stop error. I can get into safe mode on the vm but thats about
it. I checked the version of the scsiport.sys and it is the .7059 . Any
ideas? The stop error also has 0x0's for all four parameters.

I want to perform a virtual to virtual machine conversion task.
I have a virtual machine which is up and running in one data center, i require the
same virtual machine in the other data center.
As i can not migrate or Clone a vm from one DC to other.
I will have to go for virtual to virtual machine conversion.
Please give me the steps to be followed to perform v to v conversion.
I hope in V to V conversion the configuration files will be copied from one datacenter
to other data center over the network...Is this understanding correct?
Also how about the data of the VM,Will i be able to get the same data on the
VM as it was on parent datacenter after v to v.
What will be approximate time to convert if VM Holds data of 80GB.

Could someone guide me on what the best methodology would be for converting VM's from a Citrix production environment to a VMware production environment.
Ive used the vmware converter 5 for p2v's and have also read that it could be used for the same v2v from citrix, some people have also advised converting the citric vm in OVF format and importing the same onto the Vsphere environment..

I am trying to convert a Win2K Sp4 to a VMWare image with VMWare converter 3.0.3 build 89816. Unfortunately, I am running into the error: unable to determine operating system (picture attached) after selecting "this machine". I did read through a lot of threads and did what others do, with no luck As such, I am attaching the log files and boot.ini. Can someone please help or advise how to resolve such error. Thank you in advance.
Once I have done the subject line of this post, the server actually does boot, but about 15 seconds after it's sitting at the Ctrl+Alt+Del login screen, it hard reboots. It will continue to loop like this. Anyone else having this issue?
I have SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12.x virtual machines currently running from HyperV2012 R2, with UEFI Firmware Interface.
As per the VMWARE converter user guide, its not listed as supported. SLES 12 is not listed at all, and as for the UEFI in SLES 11 version itself is listed not supported in the userguide. Would that mean it would not support the offline migrations as well ?
any feedback is much appreciated.

I have being trying to convert a Window 7 Ultimate 32 bit machine into
a virtual machine with no success.
I have tried using VMware converter with both cold & hot converts, VMware Workstation 7
converter hot clone (on the Windows 7 machine) and hot clone with Vizioncore vConverter
(on the Windows 7 machine). The result was always the same:
The machine converted successfully but when I tried to run it, I got the blue screen of death.
Using the Windows 7 repair tool (on the installation DVD), I saw an error that the Windows
cannot be fixed.
Any help would be appreciated.

it keeps failing at 98% with a status :

I am running Converter on Windows 7 ans trying to make a virtual machine of the current installation to upgrade to Windows 10.
Whenever I start to use the converter I get this error message "Unable to complete Converter agent installation on Dell-9020. Another version of this product is already installed.
I have looked around the machine and the only one I can find is the current installation.
