What specific information do I need to put in the profile?

VMware vCenter Converter Standalone installation Error 1935

I've been trying to install VMware Converter on Windows Server 2008 R2 64Bit OS. I keep getting the following error during installation.

"Error 1935: An error occurred during the installation of assembly component. {9DA4DC8A-9731-3F0E-8BD5-FC17CA6848AD}.

HRESULT: 0x80070BC9."

Has anyone seen this error before? know how to fix? I've found some stuff online but I am not sure it is safe to try the things I've found.

Unable to resize disks using VMware Converter

$

I am attempting to use Vmware converter

to resize virtual machine hard drives.  The goal is to both increase

the size of the virtual hard disk, and the partition in the guest

operating system.

I am choosing the “convert machine”

option, and toward the end of the process in the “Data to Copy”

section, clicking edit.

In the “Data copy type” field,

there are two options in the drop down list:

1. “Copy all disks and maintain layout”

2. “select volumes to copy”

For some virtual machines, when I

choose “select volumes to copy” I can then specify the “target

size” and make it larger than the source size – no problem

But for other virtual machines, the

“select volumes to copy” option does not appear in the dropdown,

and as a result I cannot tell it to resize the disk in the “target

size field.

It seems not to be working on the Linux

machines in particular.  So far the Windows machines I've tried

seemed OK.  Can Linux VM disks not be resized and this only works on

Windows?  Is there something else that could be the problem?

Thanks for your ideas

Convert dual-boot partition to VM

I have a Windows dual-boot system with the C: primary partition booting XP and the E: logical disk in the extended partition booting Vista.  I've used VistaBootPRO v3.3 to install the bootloader on both partitions.  I was able to run the converter and create a VM for the C: XP partition.  But when I try to conver the E: Vista partition (which is what I really want to do), it says that E: (the only drive I select) is not a System/Active partition (it only shows as a System).  I set VBP to make E: the default boot partition and booted that way and still have the problem.  What do I need to do to be able to convert this partition?  Thanks!

Install VMWare Converter on VC Server ?

We are new to VMWare Converter and we get an Enterprise Version.

We would like to convert some physical servers to VM in the near future.  In this way, we start looking into VMware Converter.

We would like to know is it a good idea to install VMWare Converter on the VC Server ?  From the web, we understand that there are 2 components of Converter - Agent & Manager.  Should we install both of them in the VC Server or just install the Manager component ?

Moreover, since the C drive of the VC Server is almost full, can we install VMWare Converter on the D drive ?  This is a fellow has told us that we have to get it installed on the system drive.

Thanks

Hello,

I'm getting this error when trying to convert a physical Ubuntu linux machine. (Picture attached).

We've tried everything on this post - VMware Knowledge Base  and all potential ideas from google!

I would appreciate if someone could look at the logs and tell us what we need to change in order to make this work.

A general system error occurred: InternalError (An error occurred during reconfiguration) on Win SBS 2008

Hi

I have attempted to convert a Windows SBS 2008 SP2 machine, but it failed around 96% with the following error. Logs attached (ConverterDiagnostics_Convert.zip)

2016-08-24_0804[1].png

Here is a summary of that conversion task.

2016-08-24_0813[1].png

I then read some suggestions online to try and just re-do the reconfiguration process again, and that failed as well with a similar error. Logs attached (ConverterDiagnostics_Configure.zip)

The destination location for the VM image is a 2TB USB HDD and the server is only 1.4TB in size.

Can anyone assist with trying to narrow down the issue for me. I tried to check the logs, but there are many errors around the time of the failure, so not sure what is the root cause.

Thanks

Increasing the cloning performance

There have been many complaints about transfer rate degradation in Converter 5.0.

Converter uses NFC (a proprietary VMware protocol) for cloning to managed destination. Security has been enhanced in Converter 5.0 by encrypting the data transfer. Unfortunately this has caused a more severe performance degradation than expected.
Switching off SSL encryption is a way to work around this issue. Here is how it is done:

  1. Open the converter-worker.xml configuration file. It is located in "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone" folder for Windows Vista or newer or in "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone" for older Windows versions.
  2. Set the key Config/nfc/useSsl to false and save the configuration file.
  3. Restart "VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Worker" service.

I.e. it should look like:

    ...    <nfc>       <readTimeoutMs>120000</readTimeoutMs>       <useSsl>false</useSsl>    ...

Trying to migrate 4 VMs from 2012 R2 Hyper-V Server to a mixed vSphere 6/6.5 cluster via VMware converter 6.1.1 . I have tried converting and choosing mutliple types of disk controllers and it doesn't seem to matter I get a BSOD on VM startup with an Inaccessible_Boot_Device.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Tried the steps in the following articles

https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2002106

https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1005208

These are all Gen1 Hyper V vms with IDE virtual disks.

I also tried this with no luck.

VMware Converter Standalone drops /usr/bin/ping SELinux capabilities

$

Hi,

It seems that the converter drops proper SELinux-capabilities from /usr/bin/ping during conversion. Because of this, normal user's will not anymore have rights to use ping since it opens a RAW socket and that is guarded by SELinux (when enforced). The issue can be fixed manually either by giving back the proper capabilities to /usr/bin/ping or by reinstalling iputils. Anyhow it would be nice if Converter preserved SELinux-capabilities properly during conversion.

Blue screen 0x0000007B VM boot error with 64-bit Windows 2003

Blue screen 0x0000007B boot error with 64-bit Windows 2003 virtual machine converted from physical machine.

I am running VMWare Converter Starter Edition version 3.0.0 build-39557 installed on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 (a couple of months old) running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 R2 (version 5.2.3790, SP1 with all the latest updates). The server has SCSI RAID drives (2 separate arrays for a physical C: and D: drive).

The physical machine is a new clean installation of 64-bit Windows Server 2003 with no other software installed except for VMWare Server and Converter.

I am attempting to create a virtual machine from this machine to run in VMWare Server (version 1.0.1 build-29996) on the same physical machine. The conversion appears to succeed, but when I attempt to start the new virtual machine, it begins to boot, displays the Windows 2003 startup screen briefly, and then fails with a blue screen with the following error:

STOP: 0x0000007B (0xFFFFFADFD520F3C0, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)

I understand the "0x0000007B" means that it can't access the boot device for some reason. I have searched these forums and the knowledge base, but haven't found a solution to this problem.

I have been able to successfully convert and boot a 32-bit Windows Server 2003 physical machine as a virtual machine running in this same VMWare Server. I don't have any other 64-bit machines to test this with.

I am logged in directly to the console of the physical machine with the administrator account. I enabled virtualization in the BIOS. I have tried various combinations when building the virtual machine (customizing or not, fixed or variable disk sizes, importing both C: and D: drives or importing only the C: drive, etc). I have the SYSPREP files from the x64 installation disks locally on the server, and I have run SETUPMGR in this folder to create a SYSPREP.INF file. All of these various attempts have failed with the same boot error.

Is it possible to build a 64-bit virtual machine using VMWare Converter Starter Edition? Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?
