Error 1920.Service VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Server failed to start.

During installation of VMware vCenter Standalone Converter, I receive the following:

vmware error.PNG

Version: 5.1.0-1087880

OS: Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard SP2

I've tried this install with local admin and domain admin accounts. I've installed this on other servers with the same accounts without issue. Same issue happens on my local laptop with Windows 7 Enterprise SP1.

Converter issues with ESXi 6.5 - exporting fails, converter fails

Community, be greeted.

A short backstory. I recently converter 120+ VM's from ESXi 4.1 (running clustered with vCenter) to ESXi 6.5 standalone host (standard license).

These conversions were made with vmware converter and all went by with flying colors. Now the issue is that now I'm totally unable to convert anything from the new 6.5 host. This is a must-need-feature as our users constantly move these VM's from the host to their player/workstation infrastructure.

1) First error is with the converter. Some VM's convert okay but most of them give the "Not enough permissions" at 98%

2) Second error is with the export function in ESXi 6.5 (okay, a bit off-topic). Export goes pretty far but eventually gives network/time-out error.

3) Third error is with the newest converter 6.2. This version gives me the "cannot lock disks" error straight up. It doesn't matter, whether I'm using a NFS share or trying to convert to my local disk.

So far, it might have something to do with the ctb being enabled. Permissions should be okay as I'm having the issues with full root permissions.

Any clues to any of the issues mentioned above? All help is highly appreciated. Currently the only option for moving the VM's is through sftp and it doesn't sound like a plan for tomorrow

Cheers,

Pekka

Converter Standalone changes system drive letter

I have a Windows 2003 server that I am trying to convert from a physial server to a VM guest using vCenter Converter Standalone.  The original drive letters for this server are f: and g: where F: drive is my system boot drive.  As I go through the process, the target says F: and G: drive but when it is done it gives me an error that no operating sytem found.  I start the machine up and choose Windows Recovery mode and now see that the drive letters are changed to c: and d: drives which is why it will not start. I tried using diskpart from recovery mode but it will not allow me to change these drive letters.  How do I get it to change or remain at F: and G: when using the vcenter converter?

Thanks.

Hello

I am trying to create a vm from a physical server fails at 1% from the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone client with the error:

FAILED: A general system error occurred: failed to poweron vm

The vmware-converter-server-1 log contains the following, (last 30 or so lines) below.

I have found a few topics regarding this error, but they did not work, such as assigning a static IP over using DHCP.

Environment:
VMware Server - ESXi 4.1
Physical machine - RHEL 5.5
VMware vCenter Converter Standalone client, version 5.0.0 Build-470252

Any/all help is greatly appreciated.

P2V (VMWare Converter) a Physical Windows 2008 R2 Server

$

I'm having endless issues trying to convert a Physical Windows 2008 R2 Server. The failure always seems to be around not being able "to take Snapshop of source volume". The Event Viewer in the physical box throws a host of VSS errors (Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine CoCreateInstance) in the applciation event log.

Ive tried many differnent things from using Old Converters to the new vCenter 4 Converter. I even tried a VMware converter Boot CD which was successfull but the Converted VM would not boot moaning about device drivers and would not repair via any Microsoft Repair Tools.

Has anyone every got this right? I'm sure it has something to do with creating a snapshop of the disk in Windows Server 2008 but I cant find any solutions around correcting the issue.

Hello Experts,

I'm having a problem converting the RHEL 5.x powered Linux machine in Converter 5.1. I'm not sure if this is a known issue or a bug. Is there anyone experienced the same issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Unable to connect to the network share '\\localmachine\sharedname'

I'm using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone client, v5.0.0 build-470252, running on a Windows 7 64bit computer, trying to import a running Windows 2008 virtual machine (hosted by VMWare infrastructure) onto my local box.

On starting the converter, I "Connect to a local server"

Specifying the source system goes smoothly, though I ignore the certificate error.  The conversion wizard installs its agent and connects to it OK.

For the Destination System I specify:

Destination type: VMware Workstation or other VMware virtual machine
VMware product: VMware Workstation 8.0.x
Virtual machine details:
Name: same as source system, as detected by the converter
Location for the virtual machine: \\localmachine\sharedfoldername
Username & password: my Windows 7 login credentials, with Full Control over \\localmachine\sharedfoldername, both the share and the underlying folder.

When the converter verifies the destination parameters, it reports: Unable to connect to the network share '\\localmachine\sharedfoldername'"

Investigative steps so far:
- Connecting to the share via Windows Explorer works fine; it is possible to write to the share

- I tried specifying the share as "\\localhost\sharedfoldername", but get "The specified network share 'localhost\sharedfoldername' does not exist."  This was a bit of a long shot I guess, but the form does work in Windows Explorer.

- Have tried with file and print sharing both on and off - seemed worth a try after looking at other posts on this forum

The Help states "If you are connected to a local Converter Standalone server, provide a network path or a local path to the destination directory."  I tried local path "C:\Virtual Machines\sharedfoldername", but got the message "Error: Destination specified as a (local) drive.  Please specify a UNC path such as: \\machine\sharename"

The help also states "You do not have to provide user credentials if the destination location is on the local storage of the machine where Converter Standalone server runs."  However the Next button is always disabled until credentials are provided.

Can anyone help please?

Hi there,

I'm trying to convert a windows 2000 server sp4 box using VM Converter 3 enterprise direct to ESX, and am encountering a BSOD when I try and boot the resultant VM.

Error message is:

STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0x8045D9BF, 0x0000000, 0x001A0018)

I've tried the fix for windows sp4 rollup and scsiport.sys to no avail, and besides, this error address is different.  Is there anything anyone can suggest to try?

How do I remove HP Network Configuration Utility

$

I am P2Ving some HP machines and have read the posts here on how to remove most of the HP components but I am stuck on how to get rid of the HP network Configuration Utility program which puts the HP Network icon in the system tray.  There is a post from Guillermo Musumeci back in 2007 that said using this command:

snetcfg.exe -v -u cq_cpqteam

should do it but I can't find snetcfg.exe on this server.

There is also a post from Jasemccarty in 2007 that said this keymay be the key you have to remove:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\

{4D36E975-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\{FD0FF0D6-4876-4894-9274-258564E35C07}

But that key doesn't appear to be in the registry on this server.  Anyone have any ideas on how to remove this last bit of HP centric software from a P2V'd VM?

Anyone know why HP makes it so blasted difficult to remove their drivers and other components?

thanks,

Dan
