Hi,

I get the following error:

I have windows 7 Pro with SSD.

Used space: 16 GB

Free space: 39.7GB

any idea how to solve this issue?

Thanks!!

Can I do a P2V on a LIVE file server, and delay the switchover?

Hi,

May sound like a really simple question, but I can't afford to get it wrong.

We have Windows 2003 R2 servers, which are file servers, with 100 users connected, who rely on these servers to be up during work hours. They are critical machines, and we can't really afford ANY downtime, a few seconds is fine as long as nobody notices, and that any open files that people are working on do not get lost.

Because the server has upto 1TB of data on it, we can't really estimate how long it will take to do the P2V. So we'd ideally like to start this in a morning, then perhaps do the switchover at the end of our working day, so as to not upset any of our users.

Can we do this? Can we do a P2V, and then re-run the process to find any changes that may of happened between it finishing the 1st run?

Basically, we can't really sit and watch it run all the way through, then make the switch when it's finished, because we have no way of knowing if it will finish outside working hours or not, and obviously we can't wait all night either!

We have at least 4 servers to do like this, any ideas really appreciated.

Many thanks, Alan

First, sorry for my por English.

I have a problem. On having turned P2V on a servant the following message appears:

Phisical Server: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

"Permission to perform this operation was denied"

After many attempts I check the logs and I found the following thing:

SSL error message is The remote host certificate has these problems:

* The host name used for the connection does not match the subject name on the host certificate.

* The host certificate chain is not complete.

Thanks.

Converter 5.5.3, ESXI 6.0, P2V.  "An error occurred during the conversion: 'converter.fault.FileIOFault'"

The Job failed at 35%.  When I looked up the error it says that a HD error occurred and that I need to do a defrag.  Before I do this I want to check and make sure that 5.5.3 converter is compatible with ESXi 6.  I can't seem to find anything on this.

This is my environment:

Physical Box: IBM, Intel Dual 8c processors, 16 GB Ram, Raid 10

Virtual environment: (host)Dell r620, Intel Dual 8c processors, 64 GB Ram.  (san) Equallogic 6100, Raid 10

Thanks all, I just dont want to waste my time doing a defrag if the converter is not compatible.

Convert ESX 3 backup VM to VMWare Server without requiring an ESX box

I have a backup ESX 3 VM that was copied to a USB drive using SCP. I no longer have access to an ESX host and wish to convert the ESX 3 VM to a VMWare Server VM.

This would be easy if I had an ESX Host. I could use either converter or vmkfstools, however I don't have either of those.

Tried aligning the vmdk header to be something similar to that found in a VMWare Server vmdk, however that didn't work.

http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?messageID=707576. I also get the same error message if I try and run it directly in VMWare Server as this post describes as well.

Is there a way to get converter to convert a VM without requiring the ESX source VM to be physically on a Host? Are there any other utilities like vmkfstools that don't need to be executed on a host to convert?

While I'm asking questions, is someone able to tell me the difference between a pre allocated VM running on ESX vs VMWare Server?

Thanks in advance

Hello:

I am converting physical machines to VM sot hat we can consolidate our environment. The converter V5.1.0 Build1087880 fails at 71%, with a Warning:

so far, I have good progress on other physical machines except for this stubborn XP -X64 machine. We need to keep it for legacy reasons until there are replacement apps for all sw running on it (; This machine has SSD drive and no spinning HD

each time the conversion is able to start and complete the first on two drives. The GUI states its fine , but the log shows

When it gets to the second drive, I stops as it cant read some sector block.

I have run several apps to check and fix the D drive, but none find any issues. the XP-X64 machine has been restated after each test and re run. no issues are found on either drive

I have tried to run the converter without  the D drive. It wont let me do so as it states that the D drive Is critical to the conversion and wont proceed without it

I have attached GUI screen shots and two logs files

Can anyone please help?

Is there is a way to find the root problem or proceed?

if windows cant find an issue with  the D Drive why does the converter?

Converter Standalone Agent installation failed (Error Code: 1618)

I have two pretty much identical Windows 2000 servers that I am doing P2V conversions using Converter 4.0.1

My first server converted without any problems...however, my second server gets to the Converter Standalone Agent deployment and then fails with an error message "Converter Standalone Agent installation failed on 'XXX.XX.XXX.XXX'. Error Code: 1618.

I have used Port Query against the ports that are indicated in support document 1010056 and noticed that port 9089 is "listening" on the first server but "not listening" on the second server...I suspect this is the problem, but I have no idea how to resolve it...how do I go about making port 9089 a "listening" port?

Hello,

I'm trying to p2v a redhat in a HP BL460c with the new converter 4 standalone.

I give an error "Unable to connect to the Converter helper server on the target virtual machine". And the Status on the "task progress" tab is "FAILED. Failed to communicate with the remote host, either due to network errors or because the host is not responding".

I'll found this error in documentation & forums, but I have no luck, maybe someone can help me with this issue. I attach the log files.

Thanks a lot.

After submitting the task in the wizard GUI, I get “A general system error occurred: unknown internal error”. A virtual machine is created and then deleted moments later.

Converter and Windows activation

Hi,

I'm running my ESX 3.5 during the 60 days trial mode, and during this period I need to test our main servers in VM mode. For this reason I donloaded VMWare Converter 3.0.2u1 and converted two Win2003 server. But at the en of the job I was unable to login onto the new VMs because windows "must be activated". Is there a way to perform the conversion by exactly cloning the two systems, without asking for activation ? This conversion is for test only, so I cannot dismiss the real server by now. What I would like to do is convert the real server comlletely, keeping the same names, IP, etc, then switch off the real servers, power on the VMs and see if all goes ok. So, I will not run the real and virtual machine at the same time, but I need to keep the real servers ready and activated.

Is there a solution for this issue ? Thanks and bye, Stefano

vm conversion error 1154

Hi,

I have been having a lot of difficulty creating a vm from a powered on machine running winxp pro. I'm using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone client version: 4.3.0. I have used this app to migrate other vm's over to the new host and also to restore one from an image; however, when I try to create a vm from the aforementioned powered on machine I get an error.

The process I have been following is the following:

1) Open the application and select convert machine and then source type as Powered-on machine

2) specify remote machine and add ip address and user name and password and select windows as OS famly

3) Click next

it then says that it is connecting to the machine and then another window opens

VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Agent Deployment

it states that is needs to temporarily install the agent on the remote machine

I then check

Automatically uninstall the files when import succeeds

and click yes

It says that it is deploying agent and then I get the error message

"Unable to complete vCenter Converter agent installation on -.-..- Error code 1,154"

I checked the error code on the web and found this:

  Error Code 1154

System error code 1154 means "One of the library files needed to run this application is damaged."

The machine that I am trying to convert is pretty old - it is an old MS Windows NT workstation that is running WinXP pro now. Could this be part of the problem?

How do I fix this situation?

Having trouble with NIC driver for Cold Clone CD

I have an HP ML350 G6 that I need to Cold Clone because it is a Domain Contoller, and I can't seem to get the Cold Clone CD to recognize the network card.

I have tried using:  petool.exe -i coldclone.iso -n C:\Burn\WIN2003 and the drivers are added but the CD still does not recognize the NIC.  I have used Magic ISO and the drivers do show up in the image.

I have tried injecting all the drivers on HP's site for the ML350 G6 Windows 2003 32bit.  the NIC is a Broadcom Embedded NC326i PCI Express        Dual Port Gigabit Server Adapter.

Any ideas?

A file I/O error occurred while accessing *

I have just installed Converter 5.0 client/server on both a Win2008R2 server and a Win6x64 laptop, both are part of a local domain.  I am trying to do a p2v of the server and save it as a vmplayer 4 file to an external hd.  I have run the wizzard multiple times, both from the server and remotely on the laptop.  Each time I get through configuring the wizzard without incident but when I click on finish I get an error, A file I/O error occurred while accessing '\\Server\H\Server.domain.com\server.domain.com.vmdk', path obviously changes depending on where I am saving it to but the rest of the error is the same.  I have tried using different external hd's on both the server and the laptop, saving to the server's internal hd and saving to another file server on the network.  Regardless of where I save the file to I get the exact same error.  I have the log file if that would help.

An error occurred while opening a virtual disk. Verify that the converter server and the running source machines have a network access to the source and destination ESX/ESXi hosts

Hi everybody,

I ran across this infamous error now on my machine. I tried several other suggestions from other posts with no luck. I am trying to convert a powered off VMware Infrastructure machine (template) into a Workstation image. I get this error immediately after I select the template as the source and click next.

Any hints? I even tried to reinstall Converter (5.5) completely...

Conversion succeeds but unly shows black screen with cursor (not blinking)

Hi guys,

Really going a little desperate here.

I have here 1 Server 2003R2 EN edition running SQL 2005 instance (1 database).

Trying to convert to VM running on ESXi 5.5.0 1623387 using 5.5 standalone converter and also the 5,1 converter.

Hardware raid, normal basic disks (C: 60GB / D: 140GB).

stopped the SQL database, ran as local administrator, used SSL and no-SSL during copy (for speed).

Made sure I had LSI logical controller.

The convertion fails at 98% with "error: Cannot open the destination virtual machine for reconfiguration"

After that I can run the task "reconfiguration" seperately and it will tell me it has succeeded on the VM.

But in both cases I only get a black screen with a solid cursor.

Weird thing is, I dont even get the BIOS when I tell ESXi that I would like to see the BIOS after the next reboot. I go straight to black screen with cursor.

I also tried ONLY converting the C: but that resulted in the same issue,

Enclosed are the 2 log files from trying to convert (using 5.5 and 5.1).

I dont really know how to read them since I see a lot of "failed" and "error" remarks.

Appreciate the help.
