Conversions for Citrix VM to VMware VM's

$

Hi

Could  someone guide me on what the best methodology would be for converting  VM's from a Citrix production environment to a VMware production  environment.

Ive used the vmware converter 5 for p2v's and have  also read that it could be used for the same v2v from citrix, some  people have also advised converting the citric vm in OVF format and  importing the same onto the Vsphere environment..

Kindly advise .

Hi Guys,

I have problem converting physical servers with Converter Standalone 5.5

I get the mentioned error - Permission to perform this operation was denied

Previously I have managed to do the conversion for 4-5 servers.

I have tried to start the converter and the conversion job with local admin account  , with domain admin account, with Run As Administrator, turn off UAC on source machine,...nothing helped

The converter is installed on vCenter Server with Windows Server 2012 R2 Std as OS

In worker log I see different errors:

Hi all,

I have Virtual machines in Hyper-V Server and I was planning to move the Virtual machine to VMware Esxi Server.

I have tried the Vcenter Converter tools, but I got an error as " The Version of the selected Microsoft Hyper-V Server is not supported. Select an earlier version of Microsoft Hyper-V server or another supported source type"

What should I do? Please help me to resolve it

Thanks in advance

Does V2V perform sysprep ?

Hi,

If we perform a V2V of an existing VM that is a Domain Member, will it run sysprep automatically ?

OR sysprep will only be run if we choose "Customize Guest Preferences for the Virtual Machine" ?

Besides, in what circumstance do we need to choose "Install VMware Tools on the Destination Virtual Machine" ?

Thanks

VMWare Converter Failed: Unable to access the remote Converter Standalone Agent service.

When converting a windows 2000 server, it gets to either 95% or 97% and failed with "FAILED: Unable to access the remote Converter Standalone Agent service. It either does not exist or is not responding."

This is because the agent terminates unexpectedly on the 2000 server.   I have converter 4.0 on my vista machine and am sending the 2000 server into a VM on an ESX host.  I dont see anything helpful in the logs but here is a copy attached.

Any ideas?

VMware Server image to ESX convert failed

I am trying to convert/import a Win2k Server vm running on VMware Server to my ESX 3.01 Server.  I am using the starter version of Converter.

I installed the Converter and agent locally on the vm to be imported.  I started the import process, but it failed at 97% with an unknown error returned by VMware converter agent.

What am I doing wrong?  Is this the best way to migrate a VMware Server vm to ESX?

Thx,

vCenter Converter support for dvSwitch and Nexus 1000v

Has anything changed since this was published in May 2009:

http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/vsp_vcc_41_rel_notes.html

VMware vCenter Converter for vCenter Server 4.0 | 21 May 2009 | Build 161418

Last Document Update: 21 May 2009

Import and export tasks fail when a vNetwork Distributed Switch is selected as the network for the target virtual machine

When you create an import or export task and select a vNetwork Distributed Switch from the network selection for the target virtual machine, the task begins but fails immediately with the following error message: Unknown error returned by vCenter Converter agent. This problem is seen when you use the Import or Export wizards or the converter-tool Command-Line Interface (CLI) to create the task.

Workaround: Select a network for the target virtual machine that is not a vNetwork Distributed Switch.

We ran into this issue a few weeks back and seeing how this problem existed since last year, does vCenter 4.0 update 1 or 2 address this?  Thanks.

Hi there,

I am trying to download the Standalone converter but it won't let me!  I've registered and signed in and in the 'Download Packages' section i am just getting 2 version history boxes and no download option.

Am i having a moment here?  Or am i missing something?

Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this question, it seemed like the best place to start.

Thanks

Failed install after going to 97%

Since I installed the new version(39557), I have not been able to get a successful convert either. I had no problems yesterday using the previous version. I even installed it on another machine and still have issues.

Issues: pauses at 5% for a while then jumps to 97% and then fails. Converting live machine and using the VC server as the host. The live machine is 2003 standard.

Here is the error from the client log:

We are trying to convert a Windows Server 2003 x64 SP2 machine and get this error at 98 percent,

I have attached the full log. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to start the change tracking driver - Windows 2003 x64 - Not UAC as in Windows 2008 - Windows 7

I was trying to sync windows 2003 x64 to ESX 5.5 - napp-it in one storage, this failed. VMware Modified Clusters Tracking Driver test with "sc query bmdrvr" produced driver disabled on not in service.

I noticed on another server with windows 2003 x64 that worked on sync there was a reg key relating to bmdrvr to pointing to the  following location SysWOW64\drivers\bmdvr.sys, I exported the key and import to the server that was not working with sync, after that reboot to load registry and it still failed, but showed up on query, I removed two items from the key.

I removed "security" - "Enum" from the bmdrvr reg key and then tried to start, it worked. Why vConverter did not install this key on installing vConverter Stand alone on the Windows 2003 x64 does not make sense when it worked on the other system

Hi

I get the above error when trying to P2V a Windows 2000 SP4 server using the "Import Computer" function in VirtualCenter V2.5 (Build 147704). I have tried to delete the ADMIN$ and IPC$ shares on the client machine I am running the VI Client from, but as you create the job the IPC$ is reconnected.  If you delete the IPC$ during the creation of the job, the job is terminated.  I have tried using "net use * /del " and the IPC$ is recreated as the job is started.  My colleague used RDP to directly connect to the VirtualCenter server to create the P2V job, but also got the same error as above.  He also uninstalled VMware Converter on the VirtualCenter server and reinstalled it again.  I have tried to manually map the IPC$ using the same credentials as I created the P2V job with.

I have uninstalled the VMware Converter Enterprise Service from the source server machine, and obviously it is reinstalled when you create the job and the source server is rebooted. I have tried a domain and local admin accounts, and rebooting my XP desktop that runs the VI client.

I can't check if there a session already connected through My Computer, Manage, Shared Folders because the Windows XP SP2 desktop is locked down with group policies.

Any suggestions welcome!
