"FAILED: Unable to create a VSS snapshot of the source volume(s). Error code: 2147754758 (0x80042306)." FAILED at 1% with standalone converted 5.5

hello everyone,

I'm trying to convert a physical Windows 2008 R2 (SP1) to virtual, using Vmware vCenter Converter Standalone version 5.5 build 1362012, it fails at 1% (after around 40mins) with the following message

 

FAILED: Unable to create a VSS snapshot of the source volume(s). Error code:

2147754758 (0x80042306).


The windows systems has some LUNS (4 x various GB size each) from the SAN, being GUID Partition Table (GPT).  I went through the wizard typically, selecting  "powered on machine", destination "vmware workstation or other vmware virtual machine" selected vmware player 6.0.x and the target location being a LUN with 500GB space.

Now for data to copy I selected 3 of the LUNS (on which some database is residing) and put "Min size" option (but I have tried maintaining the size for different runs) to save on space.

I wonder if the converter is not able to work on GPT partitions ?  (i think I've seen some community threads about this problem using v.5.1, but using 5.5 should be solved ?)

UnixP2VVolumeCloneFailedEvent error in Converter 5.1

Hello Experts,

 

I'm having a problem converting the RHEL 5.x powered Linux machine in Converter 5.1. I'm not sure if this is a known issue or a bug. Is there anyone experienced the same issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

 

Additional notes: /srv/data203591 -> 140GB used disk space (source system). The filesystem contains a large database files of more than 2GB and up in sizes.

A general system error occurred: unknown internal error

I am trying to convert the two remaining vm's on my Hyper-V 2012 server. I am doing a physical to virtual conversion of a powered on machine since Converter 5.5 doesn't support 2012 Hyper-V. The vm's are both Server 2008 R2, one is an Exchange server and the other is a domain controller.

 

I have 2 ESXi hosts attached to a vCenter server. I tried removing the ESXi host from vCenter and converting just using IP addresses, that did not work. I have also tried using local admin credentials on one of the servers.

 

I already converted two other vm's with no issues, so I'm not sure why I am suddenly running into issues with these last two.

 

Attached are the relevant exported logs. I see where the error occurs, but I can't figure out why it is failing. Other people with similar issues seemed to have firewall, DNS, or disk errors. I don't seem to be getting the same errors I've seen others get.

A general system error occurred: InternalError

When I try to perform hot P2V of windows 2008R2, it is getting failed at 98% and giving the error message : "A general system error occurred: Internal Error" (VMware converter 5.5)

 

It creates VM on the destination, but when I power it on, it restarts with blue screen.

 

I have gone through the forum and tried the below.

 

1) Checked the BCDEDIT for 3G, I don't find any switch on the same.

2) Tried the reconfigure option, it is getting failed too.

 

Please find the below log and request help resolving this issue.

Converter fails at 98% InternalError

Hi all,

I cannot convert a physical machine.. Though serached and surfed, I am not able to find any suggestion.

Maybe the point is the error

 

MNTAPI_ERROR = 50 MNTAPI errorType = 2, errorCode = 3

 

but I don't know how to solve. I have tried to change disk controller type or running converter as administrator but no way.

 

Is there a checklist, a list of errors or anything that can help to read the logs?

Hot-clone Hyper-V to vSphere (cloud migration tool)?

I am looking for a tool to allow me to hot-migrate internal Hyper-V and vSphere servers to cloud (external) vSphere hosts.

 

  • Can StandaloneConverterconvert Hyper-V VMs to vSphere?
  • Can I kick-off ahotconversion let it complete and then a day turn off the VMs services,  click a button to perform a last minute synchronization,  have it shutdown the source VM and now the destination vSphere VM is in production without loss of data and limited downtime?

 

Any restrictions on this type of migration?   Any data consistency issues with this solution?

 

Looking for options to migrate data from internal systems to external for our clients with the least amount of downtime.   Any other tools that might be worthwhile looking at?   Veeam Replication does not allow replication between Hyper-V and vSphere.   Platespin does not appear to allow migration from Hyper-V to vSphere (only vSphere to Hyper-V).

Error Unable to find the System Volime, reconfiguration is not possible in 2008 R2

Hi Guys,

 

very frustrating issue.  I'm currently using the latest version of vmware convertor 5.5.1 while the version of my ESXi is 5.1.0, if this helps.  I am converting a 2008 server R2 and at 96% it keeps on failing with the status "vmware converter FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible."

 

I've seen similar post where the solution is to modify boot.ini; but 2008 R2 does not have any boot.ini file. And my error logs are different  Any suggestions is highly appreciated.  Attached is the log file.

I have a physical server that is sitting on the DMZ. It is not connected to the domain. I am trying to convert it with the converter and I am getting an error message, FAILED: An error occured while opening a virtual disk. Verify that the Converter server and the running source machines have a network access to the source and destination ESX/ESXi hosts. The server on the DMZ is on a different network then the converter.


I have searched and added all of my vm host to the host file on the physical server. I can ping back and forth to all the host yet i still get the above message. Can anyone give me some pointers here.

Hello,

 

I need your help, I have to virtualize two olds servers on a Vmware ESXi as soon as possible (before this weekend !)

This both servers are running with Windows NT4 SP4 and Windows 2000.

 

I tried to install VConverter but this operating systems are not compatible.

 

What solution I have ?

 

I think that if I use Norton Ghost and create a image it will be ok ?

Hello everyone,

 

My customer have a Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition who failed at P2V conversion around 97-98%.

The error on GUI is : Error: event.ReconfigurationFailedEvent.summary

 

So, I found a discussion on the vmware communities (link below) and this person was the same problem as mine. So I tried a lot of modifications on my server but nothing works.

FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.

 

I've attached my exported logs.

VMware Converter not giving option to syncronize

I apologize if this is something that has been answered before, but I could not find any reference to it and I feel like I'm just missing something very simple.  I recently started working with the newest version of Converter and the problem I'm running into is it will not let me uncheck the perform final synchronization.  I can put a check in the option to synchronize, but everything else below that is greyed out.  If I uncheck the synchronize option, of course it does not give me the option to perform a sync after doing the p2v process.  Could someone please explain to me why this is doing that.

Converter 6 - Partition number must be set for the boot volume

Using Converter Standalone 6 client and attempting to convert a CentOS 6.5 physical box, the process goes to 97% and then gives this error: "Partition number must be set for the boot volume".  The result was a virtual machine with disks that appeared to be of correct size, but would not boot.  The target destination was vCenter 5.5 U2.  In the converter worker log, I see a number of interesting items regarding disks, but am not sure what they might mean.  What can I look for to troubleshoot this specific issue?  Thanks.

Good day!

 

I am trying to convert my VM's from Windows Server 2012 r2 Standard Hyper-V to VMware vCenter 5.5 using VMware Converter Standalone 6.1.1 build: 3533064 but unfortunately I encountered an error: Failed at 1% "A file I/O error occurred while accessing ''. (please see attached image and vmware logs for reference)

 

Note:

Source: Windows Server 2012 r2 Standard Hyper-V

Destination: VMware vCenter 5.5

P2V win 7 64bit - Error: Unable to clone volume

I'm using converter standalone v6.0

 

The error message is FAILED:  Unable to clone volume

 

C: 120 GB ssd

S: 4000 GB SATA

 

I try to concert C: virtualize in S:

 

 

I am not trying to resize volumes as part of the conversion.  There is plenty of free space on the volume I am writing the VM files to (that folder is on a shared volume on the host running converter).

 

I've tried running chkdsk on the VM being converted and it did not report any errors.  I also tried defragmenting the volumes but it made no difference.

 

I already tray

chkdsk c: /B

chkdsk c: /r

scandisk

Hello All,

 

After converting a Server 2012 machine (which is running Hyper-V) and starting in VMware vSphere 5.5 I get a BSOD and system_thread_exception_not_handled winhv.sys

 

I know that I might need to disable Hyper-V, anything else it could be?

Converting Microsoft physical machine with OEM licensing

Hi All,

 

I guess this is a well worn path for all the P2V newbies like myself. I converted an old XP box with an OEM license and get stuck at the prompt "This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate Windows now?". Is there a way to convert this OEM license to run on the virtual machine or is this a dead end? I do have an XP installation disk with valid serial numbers if that is of any help.

P2V ing RAID 1. . .

Is it not possible to p2v a windows 2008 server with RAID 1 system disk?

My converter fails at trying to read system hardware. 

Tried locally installed converter, as admin.

 

Attached are the logs.. . Any advice apreciated.
